About the event
We’re excited to announce a brand-new member experience and fundraiser unlike anything we’ve done before — the ABOTA Theater Sports Improv Competition, a fast-paced, hilarious, team-based improv show featuring plaintiff lawyers, defense lawyers, judges, and mediators all performing together on one stage.
This event is designed to bring our community together, strengthen relationships across the bar, and showcase the creativity, quick thinking, and storytelling skills that make trial lawyers so extraordinary. Even better — it’s going to raise significant funds for ABOTA and give us an unforgettable night of comedy, collegiality, and connection.
We’re looking for participants!
We aim to build six teams of three, mixing plaintiff, defense, judges, and mediators so that everyone gets to collaborate in new and unexpected ways. We need 24 people to participate. The format will be six teams competing in a round robin competition. Each team will be made up of three ABOTA members. Ideally, it would be two plaintiff teams, two defense teams, one judge/former judge team, and one mediator team.
If you’ve ever wanted to try improv, love performing, or simply want to challenge yourself in a fun and supportive environment, we would love to have you join a team.
Rehearsals & Show Date
• There will be at least two rehearsals sometime in April and May, during the evening, no more than two hours, led by Brian Breiter and Joseph Limbaugh, who will introduce you to the Theater Sports format and teach you the fundamentals of improvisation.
• The live show will take place on May 23, 2026 (Saturday night).
• The event will be held at a local theater, with sponsors, ticket sales, and plenty of laughter.
Why participate?
• It’s a chance to try something completely new in a low-pressure, high-fun environment
• You’ll strengthen courtroom-adjacent skills: presence, spontaneity, listening, and quick thinking
• You’ll help raise money for ABOTA in a fresh, memorable way
• You’ll build connections across the legal community in a way that no CLE or meeting can replicate
If you’re interested in joining a team — or if you have questions — please email improv@lawbreiter.com ASAP. Spots will fill up fast, and we would love to include you.
Let’s make this an amazing event and fundraiser to remember and show the legal world that ABOTA members know how to have a great time, on and off the record.
